See The Winner Of May 2025's Meme Of The Month!

And the meme of May 2025 goes to …

The exciting, most thrilling battle of the 21st century, the much-discussed and speculated upon fight to the death between 100 men and just one proud and powerful gorilla. The hypothetical question first posed on TikTok back in February grew into an internet-wide debate after it spread to X in late April, and kept audiences entertained through the first half of May. There were many memers on both sides of the debate, and while initially many believed that gorilla would dispatch a hundred average Joes with ease, cold scientific approach revealed that while not every men would be coming back home in one piece, even a very strong gorilla doesn't stand a chance against such an onslaught. Maybe three gorillas will be enough? We'll never know for sure, and it's probably for the best for both sides of this equation. A total of 20 percent of your votes gift the 101 primates a well-deserved victory.

Rhymes With Grug
Gen Z test, it rhymes with Grug.
If you failed to comprehend that, we hope you're ready for the unc status, for the 2013 cinematic classic that is The Croods" was likely released well past your formative years. Anyway, in the movie, there is a scene where character Grug gets a bit too lax with his rhyming game, and that's where the meme comes from. So, generally speaking, anything rhymes with Grug. Double points if it's something that is morally reprehensible or illegal. Second place and 18.5 percent of total votes (it rhymes with Grug, duh).

Aerial Tramway Emoji 🚡
Have you ever wondered what's the least used emoji in the world? We don't know yet, because the Aerial Tramway Emoji 🚡, the one that was generally considered the least used just one month ago, has been all over the place on YouTube and beyond in these past few weeks. The previously obscure symbol has been used in lieu of laughing emojis to prove a point that any emoji can be reimagined and find a place in the sun if a YouTube Short says so we put our heart to it. The only thing still lacking is pairing it with a quality SFX like the classic 🗿 and Vine Thud combo. In the end, 12 percent of the total votes secured third place for the Aerial Tramway that could.
F Students Are Inventors
In the "totally not a cope" division and just below the podium, we have F Students Are Inventors. Routed in anecdotes about famous entrepreneurs dropping out of school or college to start their business, the theory that F students are actually too creative to study and get at least a D, and therefore would make great inventors, was suggested by TikToker Ben Azoyulay. Unsurprisingly, it has since been proven wrong again and again by classmates of said students who shared overwhelming evidence of their 0.5 GPA behavior on TikTok. F students and their industrious ways got found 10 percent of VCs (vote casters) investing.

Not What I'm Called
Wrapping up our top five is a good old wordplay meme format in which characters get their names just a tiny bit warped and are not too happy about it. Polyphemus became Polyamorous, Uriel Septim became Urinal Septim, Vergil got turned into Virgin … you catch the drift. Then people found ways to make it work even without the puns, which kept the format alive for another week and made it even more universal. A decent showing for Not What I'm Called with 7.5 percent of total votes.

Now for the memes that would never make it against a gorilla: Cappuccino Assassino aka the last aftershock of Italian Brainrot (6%), the unironically kawaii Cat Shadow Trend (3.5%), the unhinged and controversial Fortnite's Darth Vader AI (3.5%), the intellectually lacking 0.5 GPA Activities (3.5%), the mystery of Zendaya's big hat (3%), the King Charles the Alpha Dog supremacy (3%), blessed but calculated Pope Leo XIV memes (2%), the memes internet forced Bella Ramsey to live through (2%), the ever unexpected Aatrox Twerk (1.5%), gingers becoming honorary Blacks (1.5%), this one artwork where a girl offers you a macaron but it's actually not a delicious French sweet and instead something else entirely (1%), and, lastly, devilishly bricking an unsuspected victim's Chromebook (1%)
