Choose Your Character is video edit trend inspired by the character selection screen from the indie game ANTONBLAST. The trend shows two characters squaring off against each other and taking turns to get highlighted, like on a character selection screen. The meme is similar to the Pizza Tower's Special Guest Fanart meme that grew popular in 2023.

Origin

On October 3rd, 2024, ANTONBLAST developer Summitsphere posted a video titled, "CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER" to Twitter, now called X. The video showed the game's two protagonists Dynamite Anton and Annie, each taking turns to be highlighted while only their eyes and teeth can be seen in the dark.

The video was posted to Summitsphere's YouTube^[1] channel, where it gathered over 120,000 views, and their X^[2] account, where it gathered over 10,000 likes in two months.

Spread

The video kicked off a similar art trend on Twitter and YouTube, with animators and artists inserting their OCs or their favourite character into Summitsphere's video format. On October 12th, 2024, YouTuber^[3] That Chill Asian posted a remixed version of the track and added his own lyrics, gathering over 8,000 views in two months.

On October 15th, YouTuber^[4] Chavis97 posted a version of the trend with their own characters named Trancy and Roll, gathering over 2,000 views in two months.

The trend also gained traction on Twitter (now called X), as seen in an October 16th, 2024 post captioned "Choose your plumber!" featuring Mario and Luigi. The post by @ImWhoreHay^[5] gathered over 8,000 likes in two months.
