About

Dancing Security Guard refers to a viral video of internet personality and dancer Work It Willis, dressed as a security guard on the field at a Houston Astros game, skillfully dances when challenged by the team's mascot. The video has been remixed numerous times to feature various music.

Origin

On June 27th, 2014, Houston Astros mascot Orbit danced around the field and teased security guards by appearing to challenge them to a dance-off. One security guard took the challenge and began to dance with skill, including a cartwheel and a split[1] (shown below).

Spread

The video spread when the dancer in the video, internet personality Work It Willis, posted a remix of the clip set to Michael Jackson's "Slave to the Rhythm" to YouTube on July 3rd, 2014. The video has gained over 30 million views (shown below).

In the following years, the video was remixed numerous times with different music. On August 13th, 2015, YouTuber vids2enjoy posted a remix that gained over 4.3 million views (shown below, left). On July 15th, 2018, YouTuber ZappahVideo posted a remix with Last Surprise, gaining over 5.6 million views (shown below, right).

A similar event happened at Game 2 of the 2017 ALCS, when another apparent security guard at an Astros game began to dance when challenged by Orbit, though it's unclear if this example was also staged (shown below, left). Willis' dance has also been added to Fortnite, and is known as the "Work It" emote (shown below, right).
