J.D. Vance Babyface Edits refers to several photoshops and edits of photographs depicting U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in which he is given exaggerated baby features to his face, such as large cheeks and lips and smooth skin. For instance, the Bald J.D. Vance meme showed Vance with a bald head and a rounder face. The edits were a part of the larger J.D. Vance Edited Face Photoshops, also known as Rare Vances. The J.D. Vance Babyface edits were widely circulated on social media in October 2024 and continued into early 2025. In March 2025, Vance's "Have You Said Thank You Once?" quote sparked more use of the Babyface edits. In June 2025, Norwegian tourist Mads Mikkelsen claimed that he was barred from entering the U.S. after being stopped by immigration officials at Newark Airport in New Jersey, taken to a holding cell, and having his phone searched. Agents allegedly found the Bald J.D. Vance meme on his device. Mikkelsen's claims sparked international news coverage.

Origin

On October 2nd, 2024, X^[1] / Twitter user @DaveMcNamee3000 posted an edited photograph of Republican politician and vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance in which he was given a rounder face and larger cheeks, writing, "For every 100 likes I will turn JD Vance into a progressively apple cheeked baby." The post received over 7,000 reposts and 237,000 likes in three weeks.

Later on October 2nd, @DaveMcNamee3000 posted an edit in which Vance was given even larger cheeks, which received over 90 reposts and 7,200 likes on X^[2] in the same timeframe (shown below). More users posted edits of Vance in the thread, which launched the J.D. Vance Portrait Edits meme.

On October 3rd, 2024, X^[3] user @Face_Almighty44 posted a cropped version of the edit in a since-deleted tweet.

On October 18th, following the debate between J.D. Vance and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, X^[4] user @mrgapingasshole posted another edit, made with FaceApp, in which Vance was given a bald head and thick lips. The edit (shown below) received over 5,700 reposts and 144,000 likes in five days.

Spread

The first edit saw initial spread online in early October 2024. For example, on October 5th, X^[5] user @atlanticesque posted a comparison meme of two edited images of J.D. Vance, commenting, "inside you there are two jd vances." The post (shown below) received over 10 reposts and 130 likes in three weeks.

On October 17th, 2024, X^[6] user @garloids posted the photograph with the caption, "Hi I noticed you had sour cream and onion chips, mind if I snag a few 🤗." The post (shown below) garnered over 5,000 reposts and 133,000 likes in one week.

On October 19th, 2024, X^[7] user @srothbell posted the second babyface edit of J.D. Vance together with a photograph of Tim Walz pursing his lips, commenting, "the debat." The post (shown below) gained over 5,000 reposts and 108,000 likes in four days.

In late October 2024, both images saw more use online, both as caption memes and exploitables.

J.D. Vance "Have You Said Thank You Once?"

On February 28th, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President Trump, and J.D. Vance met in the Oval Office to discuss US-Ukraine relations. At one point during the meeting, J.D. Vance interjected during an argument between Trump and Zelenskyy to ask, "Have you said thank you once?"

A babyface edit of Vance posing the question made the rounds online on February 28th, 2025, as seen in a post by X^[8] user @TheMisterFrog that gathered over 360,000 likes in three days.

On March 2nd, X^[9] user @BonerWizard posted the image as well, writing, "Mom said you have to find a game that's three players," portraying Vance as a petulant child. The post gathered over 160,000 likes in a day.

Meme creators initially gave VP Vance a "babyface," making his cheeks chubbier and giving him childlike exploitable signifiers. Edits also surfaced en masse after the 2024 Vice Presidential Debate and after Vance's official Vice Presidential portrait in early 2025, when he and President Donald Trump took office. In June 2025, a 21-year-old Norwegian citizen named Mads Mikkelsen claimed that he was barred from entering the U.S. after he was stopped by immigration officials at Newark Airport in New Jersey and during his questioning, the agents allegedly discovered the Bald J.D. Vance meme on his phone. The story and Mikkelsen's claims brought new attention to the Bald J.D. Vance meme on social media.
