Malleo is a vectorized image based off an unusually drawn sprite of Mario, found within the DOS version of the educational video game Mario Is Missing! In the non canonical YouTube Poop lore, the character is likened to be the apparent brother of Weegee, occasionally being paired up with him.

Origin

It is unknown where the nickname "Malleo" and the vectorized image surfaced on the web; however, the sprites it is based off of can be found in the 1992 DOS version of the educational game Mario Is Missing!^[1] In the game, the sprite (alongside the sprite that Weegee is based off of) is seen in the intro and ending cutscenes of the game.

Spread

Sometime around 2005, a vectorized image of the Malleo sprite began to spread within the 4chan, deviantART and YouTube communities.^[2][3] Similar to Weegee, Malleo would be utilized in various threads and forum boards as a method of causing other users discomfort.

Versions

Throughout its use, Malleo had been subject to an evolutionary change, partially in order to be meshed with Weegee. The following are the most popular versions of Malleo:

Original (2005-2007)

Malleo's original, non-pixel based sprite was utilized before the newer, vectorized version. This version of Malleo became widely popular over 4chan^[4]. As well as many other forums over the years, these changes can be seen in some archives.

Current (2008-Present)

The most commonly used (and well known) version of Malleo. When the original, sprite-based version of the image became popular enough, this higher quality version appeared on the internet, with many preferring to utilize this image over the original. It is unknown where this version of Malleo originated from.

YouTube Poop

Again, like his "brother" Weegee, Malleo has appeared in a wide variety of YouTube Poop videos, typically as an assistant to Weegee.
