Overview
Nexus Mods Sold, also known as the Nexus Mods Sale or Chosen Acquisition of Nexus Mods, refers to the selling of the well-known video game modding website and tool Nexus Mods (Vortex Mod Manager), a website and forum that hosts mods for a variety of PC games. Since 2001, the site has been run by its creator, Dark0ne, whose real name is Robin Scott. On June 16th, 2025, Dark0ne announced that the site had been sold to an unnamed party, which was later purported to be Chosen, a company run by CEO Victor Folmann that focuses on the growth and monetization of gaming startups. News of the sale was met with mixed reactions online, with some worrying that the site might start charging users to download mods, among other concerns. The new site owner, user Foledinho (Victor Folmann) on Nexus Mods, claimed that they would not start charging for mods.
Background
Nexus Mods is a prominent video game modding website that hosts mods for over 3,700 games. The site was created by Dark0ne (Robin Scott) and launched in 2001. It has become notably popular in the gaming community, particularly for games like Skyrim.
On June 16th, 2025, Dark0ne made a post on Nexus Mods[1] titled "An Update From Dark0ne." The post describes how Dark0ne started the website, its impact on his life and how exhausting it has been. He then announces that he sold the site to an unnamed party. He gives the usernames of some of the new owners, naming "Foledinho (Victor Folmann), Rapsak (Marinus) and Taagen (Nikolai)." The post acquired over 630 comments in a day.

Developments
On June 17th, 2025, following worries that Nexus Mods would start selling mods under its new ownership, user Foledinho, one of the new site owners, made a thread under the post by Dark0ne looking to clear up what the new ownership for the site means. In the post, Foledinho specifically writes that mods will "always remain free."

Online Reactions
Reactions to Nexus Mods' sale in mid-June 2025 were mixed, with some of the site's users worrying that the new owners would add paid mods to the site, among other things.
These worries came to a head when word that the site was purportedly sold to Chosen, a company "focused on growth and monetization of gaming startups."[8]
On June 16th, 2025, news of the sale was posted by X[2] user @Vara_Dark and to the /r/gaming[3] subreddit, garnering over 5,800 likes and 17,000 upvotes, respectively, in a day, inspiring many comments worrying about paid mods.
Later that day, a post was made to the /r/gaming[4] subreddit by a now-deleted user claiming Chosen had acquired the site, garnering over 1,600 upvotes in a day. The allegation that Chosen bought the site comes from investigative work done on the ResetEra[5] forums.
The contents of this post were reposted to the /r/skyrimmods[6] subreddit later on June 16th, garnering over 5,000 upvotes in a day and inspiring further panic over the possibility of paid mods. The worry over the implementation of paid mods inspired one of the new site owners to write a statement on Nexus Mods the next day, claiming that mods will always be free.

On June 17th, 2025, YouTuber[7] The ArchCast posted a video criticizing the sale titled, "Nexus Mods Sells Out, Prepare For Paid Mods," garnering over 15,000 views in under 24 hours.
